Art Appreciation Aids -Symbolism The Glad-stone Memorial -Lest We Forget is the second piece in the Blood Series. It is of a memorial to soldiers who died in war. The purpose of this piece is contemplation, not fine art! Firstly, savour any feelings that are evoked by the colours and the sweep of the road drawing you in. Is there anything else in the picture that moves you. Savour that then ponder on why that is. Old stain glass windows and mosaics in churches were made to communicate biblical stories and truths. Think about each aspect of the painting and what Bible verse or truth you know related to that. eg mountains, valleys, pastures, fields, rivers etc. Numbers are also significant. Consider the layout and materials used. The current list of Biblical references that have been found is over 100 and growing!
