I am seeing that another interpretation of this piece as “The Veil.” The poem, Songs, that was beautifully brought together with this piece in the Easter & Anzac Exhibition talks about ‘the scarlet tent’ -a place for holding and nursing and comforting those with issues of blood -the wounded, the dying, women menstruating or giving birth; times of celebration or anguish which were the times when songs were born and sung lifting the spirit up to God. Sometimes it can be hard to escape the veils that are put on us by society, especially when they have become embedded deeply into culture. Even if they are well past their use by date.
